Ok this was more like it. I didnt like reading the play watching it is way better. When you watch it you can actually see how the characters look how they are and there facial expressions. Blanche looked exactly as I thought she would look, she was blonde skinney and sassy. I didnt like Stellas husband in the play and i especially didnt like him in the movie. In the play he seemed like a jerk in the movie he was a monster. Stella wasnt any help she let him act the way he wanted she shouldve left him when he hit her the first time, but her passion was really seen when she took him back.
I liked the movie better also because not only was it more interesting to look at but you could really see the character Blanche was. She was out of her mind since day one. It was like she was in her own world the way she would pance around the house like she was a queen. For some reason i expecte Mitch to be much more hansome because it just seemed like Blanche would have better taste because she was so sassy. The scen that I really thought was different was the scene where Mitch told Blanche that she wast clean enough to bring to her mother, in the movie he said it bt he was trying to seduce her at the same time. In the book it just seemed like he was telling it to her. Another difference was when Blanche freaked out in the movie she tol him to leave before she began to scream in the play she told him to leave before she began to scream fire.
The ending was the big twist. The ending was different from the play. In the play Stella actually was smart enough to leave her husband. you coul really see how crazy she had turned out she was out of her mind but who wouldnt be after she got raped and all she has went through previously. I liked how Mitch actually noticed what he had done and punched him. I was glad that she left him in the end.

I agree the ending of the film was a big twist on what had occurred in the book. I felt that it gave a better ending because it showed that Stella actually knew what was going on and decided not to put up with it any longer. In the book you were left hanging as to what was actually happening. I wasn’t sure if Stella was really angry at Stanley or if she was just going to put up with it. Prior she had just dealt with these situations lightly, such as Stanley hitting her. By showing Stella’s reaction in the movie, it gave me a better grasp of how she was reacting, and gave it an ending that had more of a final say than the book.
I agree that watching the play was much better than reading it. Watching the film really gave us an insight to William's true intentions with the characters.
The ending was defiantly very different from the book version. I love that Stella finally took a stand against Stanley for herself and her sister. Although she still acted like she did not believe Blanche, I think everything worked out for the better. Blanche clearly needed help, that she was hopefully going to get. Stella just needed to get away from Stanley for her own safety and for that of her unborn baby.
I am also glad that Mitch hit Stanley at the end. I think that it just tied things up really well. I just hope that Stella does not go back to Stanley ever.
while i did like the ending in the movie more than in the play, i feel like it left some important things out. no longer was there this lingering irony as you discover that Blanche isnt the only one in this dream world, but Stella is also in denile, and willing to fake this amazing life with Stanley than face the facts. It was intresting they chose to delete these feelings. i feel like irony always makes a story and the messages that its trying to get across stronger than just laying them out on the table, all cards visible for the players to read. I did like this ending more though, i think just becuase it was more politically correct, and self fulfilling than the one in the play. i felt like there was some controversy, and mixed emotions stirring in me when i finished the play, but the movie ending definatley setteled those stirring feelings.
I also liked the ending of the movie much better than the ending of the play. I am not sure, though, how much it stays in line with the character development of the script, since there were very few warning signs that Stella was getting fed up with Stanley and that she would actually leave him. She was a very passive character, and even the night of Blanche’s birthday when he shattered some plates, the women just ducked and timidly looked at their own plates. It seems as though she hardly ever reprimanded him. However, I certainly was glad that she left him because he clearly deserved to be left. Also, I did like that the other men stood up to Stanley. In the play, it seemed as though Stanley had completely escaped any consequences from raping Blanche, but in the movie Stanley makes some remark along the lines of, “I never laid a hand on her,” to the other poker players. This indicates that they were commenting about the incident or giving him implicating stares. I am glad that his friends doubted him and, as you mentioned, that Mitch punched him. Even though Mitch realized that he could not be with Blanche because she was not “clean” enough, it was obvious by this action that he still cared about her and wished that circumstances were different so he could marry her. He defends her honor by punching Stanley and proves himself to be much more of a gentleman than Stanley, as Blanche had suspected all along.
I think you brought up a good point that I also noticed. In the play, I didn't care for Stanley, but in the movie I think Marlon Brando did a good job of turning him into a monster. In reading the play, you don't get a sense of his facial expressions or his eyes. I think his eyes said a lot in the movie. He had such anger and it showed through his eyes. Also, he never really focused on Stella when he talked to her. It always seemed that he was too preoccupied with other things.
I think almost everyone enjoyed the movie's ending. Although it sort of trails off-we don't know what happens to Stella and the baby or to Stanley-we do know where Blanche ends up. It's almost ironic how Blanche ends up at a final destination, and Stella has no where to go. In the beginning, Stella had her life all figured out and Blanche was at her last resorts. But the end provided a daring twist.
I have to agree with you about Micth, but also would like to disagree with you. I expected something different I kind of expected him to be a big fat guy because he discribe himself as big boned and sweaty.
I feel that in the play Stella was a character an important part, but in the movie I felt like she was almost an extra. She didn't stand out to me. The movie was a lot more about the relationship between Blanche and Stanley.
I definitely liked watching the movie better, Blanche's character definitely came to life. We see her bugging her eyes out and acting completely crazy. I definitely didn't think she was that insane just from reading the play. I liked what you said "In the play he seemed like a jerk, in the movie he was a monster." That's a really comparasion, because in the play I somewhat sympathized with Stella's decision to move Blanche out and stay with Stanley. I mean, she did just have his baby, and everything else. But in the movie, I was so happy they changed the ending a little bit.
I agree with you that the movie was much better than the play. Although you didn't like Stanley i really did. He really stuck out as a great charachter to me. I unlike you though thought Blanche was a little over dramatic. I liked her better when we were reading about her in the play. In the movie she just wasn't what i pictured. I think the ending was a great aspect to the play. Although it was different in the movie, i think they should have left it the way it was written because of the fact that it was the main part of the play where she picks Stanley over Blanche. Overall i thought watching the movie really helped visualize the play more.
